So, why Acupuncture and TCM anyway???

I became a student again to expand on my offerings for my clients, new and existing. I have enjoyed over nine years as a massage therapist, and very much love this industry and the opportunity to make a living for myself through helping others. I believe that we are given no greater blessing than our health, and that it is through a lack of self-awareness that we begin to lose or take for granted this precious gift. Acupunture and TCM explore the subtleties of health and disease like nothing else, and strive to maintain the balances of the body well before they can be given the chance to develop into disease. I intend to use my skills to help people to regain and/or maintain this precious gift, integrating all I have learned together to really help people learn to own their health and develop their self-awareness, and live longer more enriching lives for it.

What is it about this profession that makes you happy?

It's a combination of factors for me, but primarily the satisfaction that comes from knowing that the work I do is in line with my morals and values. Financially is one of the hardest places to live a moral life in our fast-paced and wasteful world, so I am very grateful to be able to make my living helping others in ways which I can agree with wholeheartedly. I also love the freedom that comes with self-employment, and the capacity to be present for my children or serve my own needs freely within my working life.

Student clinic, and personal experiences with the TCM modalities:

The student clinic is a great opportunity for people who might otherwise not be able to afford natural preventative health care options a chance to take care of themselves. As students, we are passionate about what we are learning, and love to share the knowledge we are developing with the patients that come our way. For those wishing to learn more about these modalities with questions about the theory and philosophies behind it, the student clinic is a great place to explore!      I have personally experienced all of the modalities available within the student clinic, and each one definitely has its unique benefits. I can certainly see how each method has its place and purpose in delivering the most effective treatment possible to the different needs of each patient. I find them all quite relaxing, especially the Acupressure Massage techniques. Cupping has helped me with shoulder pain, as well as with my minor sciatic issues (leg numbness) during my pregnancy. I personally love Gua Sha, and any time I develop an ache or pain I am reaching for my Gua Sha tool for self treatment to improve circulation in those areas. I also use a Gua Sha facial roller for cosmetic purposes (wrinkle prevention and general skin health), as I dislike wearing makeup. Acupuncture itself has helped me with a myriad of things over the years, such as labour induction for my second child, insomnia, anxiety, headaches, muscle pain, and digestive discomforts.

Testimonials:

*Jeff Russell ~ "I have received a few cupping treatments from Heather. The treatments really seam to help remove some of the toxins from my body and I find it to be relaxing. My favorite is when she did the moving cupping on my back, it was like a good massage. Heather was great at listening to my concerns and would ask throughout the treatment how I felt. A+" (regarding Cupping Therapy)
