What's Massage all about?

I'm glad you asked! Massage therapy is the use of various manual techniques to relieve tension and knots in the soft tissues of the body. I can also help by educating you about posture, stretching and exercise, hydrotherapy (Ice or heat?), and help you reach your health and welness goals.

Massage Therapy has benefits for many of the body's systems, so whether you're looking for treatment of a particular condition, or just looking to improve overall health and wellbeing, massage has both bases covered.

Massage isn't just good for physical pain disorders, but also has a host of benefits for conditions like stress, depression, anxiety, and insomnia as well. It's also great for improving circulation, so even with seemingly unrelated conditions such as diabetes, there are benefits as well.

Treatment can always be adapted to your needs, so if you're extra sensitive to pressure or feel uncomfortable undressing, there are still treatment options for you too. Even in the early stages of injury,I can use gentle movement techniques to help ease pain and reduce inflammation.

What do I need to know about my first treatment?

Drink plenty of water before and after your treatment; it really does make a huge difference in the health of your tissues! Please let me know if you've taken any medications such as pain killers, muscle relaxants, or anti-inflammatories prior to your treatment; if possible, try to hold off until afterwards so that you can get the most out of your treatment.

You may or may not be achy or tender within 24 hours after your treatment; I have no solid way of determining if you will respond this way to treatment or not, but there are things that can be done to prevent it if you are concerned about this (water is one, and letting me know prior to your treatment so I can use different techniques is another). Please communicate with me about this issue if it comes up for you so that we can find the treatment style that will work best for your body.

Everybody is different, so the first one to three treatments are me learning how your body type responds to treatment, and finding the right treatment plan to meet your needs. Communication is key, so if there's anything that isn't comfortable for you in any way, please don't hesitate to let me know so we can find something else that might be.
